What's up Roll Up family?!
Just wanted to brief all of our artists on some changes being made to the event in order to grow it more professionally and creatively. Attached is a PDF which I encourage you all to read in full, but I'd like to highlight some of the new changes here, as well as reiterate some of the general rules that need to be followed.
Most events from here on out will include TWO featured artists spots, one at 10pm and the other at 11pm. Both spots will still consist of a 25 minutes set. The 10pm set will feature an artist selected from within the Roll Up community who continually sign-up, promote, and represent themselves professionally at our events. The 11pm set will be reserved for up-coming and/or well established artists from the Philly hip-hop scene as a whole.
Upon emailing us for consideration at an up-coming event you are required to also provide us with links to some of your current work. If selected to participate you will then be assigned a 30 minute 'window' during which your set will begin (you will no longer receive a specific time). All artists are required to be at the club at least 30 minutes before the start of that 'window' and check in. For example, if you book a spot, and are assigned between 9:30 and 10pm - that means we expect you to check in by 9pm, and be ready to perform your 10 minute set somewhere between 9:30 and 10:00pm We are trying to build a community here, and as artists you should want to support your fellow artists by being present for their performances. In other words, artists who just roll in, do their set and bounce, will most likely not be signed-up in advance in the future.
Please keep in mind, that unless you have a featured artist spot, your allotted performance time is TEN minutes, which is generally 2-3 songs. If you send us three 4 minute songs (12 mins), expect to only perform 2 (8 mins). This needs to work in this manner in order to get artists up and performing during their promised 'window'. If you want a longer set time then continue to honor the 10 minute rule, get there on time, and actively participate in the Roll Up community and you'll most likely earn a 25 minute featured artist spot. So please plan your set accordingly, to utilize the most of your alloted time.
And finally, if you are given a spot - SHOW UP! As most of you can confirm, our list is generally full before the event even starts and the remaining spots end up going quickly. The Roll Up is only going to continue to grow, and there is no shortage of artists out there that wouldn't love the opportunity to perform at a real original music venue, on a real stage, under real lights, with a real sound system, for other real artists and music fans alike. So in short, from this point on, if you fail to show up for a booking, you might as well get there by 8pm to sign up in person the next time since you will not be considered for an advanced spot in the future.
Next month's featured artists are FROST GIO and RICK QUICK. If you'd like to be considered for a spot you know the drill: hit us up with a link to your music. As the requests come in, we will craft a fitting schedule, and assign you a 30 minute window. All you gotta do is get us your performance mp3s, promote the event, and show up at least a half hour before your time. We'll handle the rest, including (but not limited to): security, sound, host, DJ, lights, stage, drink specials, heat, real people, etc.
